An Outcome of the de Finetti Infinite Lottery is Not Finite

چکیده
A randomly selected number from the infinite set of positive integers—the so-called de Finetti lottery—will not be a finite number. I argue that it is still possible to conceive of an infinite lottery, but that an individual lottery outcome is knowledge about setmembership and not element identification. Unexpectedly, it appears that a uniform distribution over a countably infinite set has much in common with a continuous probability density over an uncountably infinite set.

Examples of bosonic de Finetti states over finite dimensional Hilbert spaces
According to the Quantum de Finetti Theorem, locally normal infinite particle states with Bose-Einstein symmetry can be represented as mixtures of infinite tensor powers of vector states. This note presents examples of infinite-particle states with Bose-Einstein symmetry that arise as limits of Gibbs ensembles on finite dimensional spaces, and displays their de Finetti representations. We consi...
متن کاملDe Finetti Theorems for Easy Quantum Groups
We study sequences of noncommutative random variables which are invariant under “quantum transformations” coming from an orthogonal quantum group satisfying the “easiness” condition axiomatized in our previous paper. For 10 easy quantum groups, we obtain de Finetti type theorems characterizing the joint distribution of any infinite, quantum invariant sequence. In particular, we give a new and u...
متن کاملCountable Additivity and the de Finetti Lottery
De Finetti would claim that we can make sense of a draw in which each positive integer has equal probability of winning. This requires a uniform probability distribution over the natural numbers, violating countable additivity. Countable additivity thus appears not to be a fundamental constraint on subjective probability. It does, however, seem mandated by Dutch Book arguments similar to those ...
متن کاملFinite de Finetti theorem for infinite-dimensional systems.
We formulate and prove a de Finetti representation theorem for finitely exchangeable states of a quantum system consisting of k infinite-dimensional subsystems. The theorem is valid for states that can be written as the partial trace of a pure state |Psi/Psi| chosen from a family of subsets {Cn} of the full symmetric subspace for n subsystems. We show that such states become arbitrarily close t...
متن کاملALGEBRAS WITH CYCLE-FINITE STRONGLY SIMPLY CONNECTED GALOIS COVERINGS
Let $A$ be a nite dimensional $k-$algebra and $R$ be a locally bounded category such that $R rightarrow R/G = A$ is a Galois covering dened by the action of a torsion-free group of automorphisms of $R$. Following [30], we provide criteria on the convex subcategories of a strongly simply connected category R in order to be a cycle- nite category and describe the module category of $A$. We p...
